Patrick Ian Polk is an American film director, producer, and screenwriter, best known for his work in LGBTQ+ cinema. He was born on August 12, 1973, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and grew up in a religious family.
Polk attended the University of Southern Mississippi, where he received a degree in journalism. He then moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in the film industry. His breakthrough film, Punks (2000), premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and was later released in theaters.
Polk's other notable works include the films Noah's Arc: Jumping the Broom (2008) and The Skinny (2012), as well as the TV series Noah's Arc (2005-2006) and Being Mary Jane (2013-2014). He has been recognized for his contribution to LGBTQ+ cinema and was inducted into the National LGBTQ Wall of Honor in 2020.
Outside of his professional work, Polk is an advocate for HIV/AIDS prevention and has worked with organizations such as the Black AIDS Institute and HIV/AIDS Alliance for Region Two.
